'Kungakutjarra' - an Aunt and neice who travelled through the land teaching other women song and dance cycles, were considered the most important of the Warlpiri women. Ceremonies are performed in homage to these ancestral women for the essential skills of collecting food and water in the dessert that they have passed down to subsequent generations of women. The body designs painted onto women's bodies prior to such ceremonies are now also depicted on canvas.
