Title: Tjintpirriny (Willy Wagtail)
Stock No: NKB-000300
Size: 102 x 76cm
Price:SOLD

There was a big corroboree at a waterhole called Dangku, Tjintpirriny heard about it from his home at Kitji near Lake Gregory - where he lived with his two cousins, the Rainbow Serpents.

He walked to the corroboree from the lake and joined in. At the end of the corroboree when presents were being exchanged, he was given nothing.

Seeing everyone else with their new boomerangs, spears, hairbelts and wives, he became angry and travelled home. When he told his cousins what had happened, they flew in a cloud to the waterhole and made the ground soft, like quicksand and everyone was burried.

The Rainbow Serpents returned to the Lake and gave Tjintpirriny some wings so he didn't have to walk anywhere

Title: Pujurl / Lanu Lanu
Size:
160 x 46cm
Medium:
acrylic on canvas
Stock Number:
NKB-000301
Price: $2200

My father's country in the land south of Lake Gregory. This is where the sand frog lives. The sand frog is a prized delicacy for its taste and its moisture content.

This land is where my father's father gave the land to his wife and said "this rich land of plenty is yours". My father did the same and gave this land to my mother. It is in the middle of my father's country - Lanu Lanu. It is very sacred to my family for its sentimental value.

The sandfrogs (Pujurl) never leave the sandhill at the top of this picture and you are not allowed to take more than you need from here.

Near the sandhill is a claypan or dry lake which fills up in the rainy season. My father used to camp here when he was little.

There are a lot of Bilbies here and dingoes. The claypan at the bottom is where all the snakes live. If you look harder there is a rocky white area where the snakes live - black head pythons. This country is just east of Kurtal - home of the rain making rainbow serpent.

Title: Jarriny
Size:
92 x 46cm
Medium:
acrylic on canvas
Stock Number:
NKB-000302
Price: $770

This is Jarriny. Where my spirit lived in the animal world. My father went hunting here and caught some fish. Before I was born my spirit lived in the catfish and this is where i was born - my Jarriny.

I was a catfish - or my spirit lived in a catfish...this is my dreaming.

This is where the Mary River meets the Fitzroy River.
